APAP Machine Recommendations Needed

I am looking to replace my machine since it is no longer being made. I will be purchasing it from an on-line supplier. I am looking for an APAP with a 45-minute ramp that allows the user, me, to review my data easily each day to see if the mask is leaking and whether my sleep is improving. I am not good with technology, so the "easily" part is important. I do not need any advanced reporting options for communicating with a doctor. I also want the auto-pap that will adjust as needed rather than having to depend on a doctor to set a pressure. (I get my prescriptions through my GP, who is able to consider my health needs as a whole rather than just focusing on one issue insisting that other areas have no impact on each other.)

After quitting and then trying again, I have finally found a mask that seems to work. I do not need to get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, and my ankles are less swollen. However, I continue to struggle to find a comfortable position so that I can fall asleep and wake up at least once, then require another hour to get back to sleep. Since I deal with chronic pain related to arthritis, I need to know whether I am still waking from apnea-related issues/mask leaks or whether it is merely the usual pain/stiffness.

Any recommendations?

Resmed air sense 10 auto set...tis what I use, it does all you ask and I love it...it set up an account, contact that account and sends most sleep data to it for easy access thru internet...or you could just read report off of machine...found clinicians setup on another site which gives me complete control of all settings (beware of this if not completely sure)..oh yeah, if you get this machine, I would highly recommend the "Climate Right" heated hose to go along with it..............madjack

Can it be used without the humidifier? I find it very uncomfortable breathing in warm, damp air. I already need to sleep with a fan blowing on my face since the mask feels hot. (They actually make cooling pillows for women at my stage in life!)

Yes you can...turn contrrol to 0 and you have no humidification...if you have the ClimatRight, heated tubing (highly recommend), you can set air temps as well...up to upper/mid 80's.......... madjack

Hi madjack, My mom (around 70) is using the ResMed Airsense 10 autoset for Her for 4 months. i have set the humidity level to 8, ramp time is auto, full face mask, but she still has problem with nose congestion in the morning, her average usage hour per night is 5.5 hours. I also purchased the over the counter nasal spray wash and let her use before treatment. Please let me know any suggestion. The supplier recommended to change to the heated tube (ClimateLineAir heated air tubing), is it helpful? I saw you have experience using it.

Also she is still not used to wear the mask all night, take off when woke up around 2-3 am. Any suggestion? thanks a lot

I've only had two machines at this point, but I agree that the Resmed Air Sense 10 Autoset does everything you are looking for. You can turn off the humidifier, but interestingly I'm also bothered by warm air blowing at me and it doesn't always feel warm to me. Occasionally, it will but most of the time it just feels like room temp or sometimes even cool air.

I think you will find any auto will do what you ask (except perhaps for access to data). The ResMed (Airsense 10), Respironics (Dreamstation) and Fisher & Paykel (Icon Auto) all do. I'd go for whichever is cheapest because there is little to separate them. Having said that, check them out because you may find the controls on one easier than another, which is a significant thing. I only use the above 3 brands, but they do make up about 98% of the market. Other brands are probably pretty much the same.

I also wouldn't get too carried away with following the data. The odd download or 2, from a trained professional, will tell you all you need to know (and way more than the machine will display to you). It's usually best not to sweat the details. If your download says it's working and you are comfortable that should be all you need to know.
